However, once the health crisis settled, the deterioration of the security situation in rural areas has led to an increase in the death toll.Īlthough the exact numbers of killings vary depending on the source, the trends observed are similar: in recent months, there has been an alarming increase in the killings of social leaders and members of vulnerable groups, relative to pre-pandemic months (January-March 2020) as well as in comparison to the same period last year (April-August 2019).
